Translate your WordPress website

The Translation (“Sprawk Translation” for 2.x and 3.x) plugin for WordPress allows an entire website to be translated and localized into different languages. This plugin does not require any other tools or customization. Simply download and activate this plugin, specify your Sprawk team key and start translating.

Use the language switcher block provided by locale module to allow users to select a language. If available, both the site interface and site content are presented in the language selected.

All WordPress contents managed in one place

The Sprawk plugin collects all strings from your content, menus, other plugins and even user-generated content like comments. Our translation dashboard shows you which common strings are missing translation and which pages are most visited in which languages. This way you can make better decisions about where to spend your limited professional translation budget.

Tools for in-house translators

Your own translators can be assigned tasks from the Sprawk dashboard. They will automatically have access to similar sentences previously translated to help you save time and keep things consistent.

Background

WordPress is an open source Content Management System (CMS), often used as a blog publishing application, powered by PHP and MySQL. It has many features including a plug-in architecture and a template system. Used by over 12% of the 1,000,000 biggest websites, WordPress is the most popular CMS in use today.

WordPress has a template processor system, which includes widgets that can be rearranged without editing PHP or HTML code, as well as themes that can be installed and switched between. The PHP and HTML code in themes can also be edited for more advanced customizations. WordPress also features integrated link management; a search engine-friendly, clean permalink structure; the ability to assign nested, multiple categories to articles; and support for tagging of posts and articles.

Automatic filters that provide for proper formatting and styling of text in articles (for example, converting regular quotes to smart quotes) are also included. WordPress has a rich plugin architecture which allows users and developers to extend its functionality beyond the features that come as part of the base install.

The Sprawk translation plugin is one of these and can simply be downloaded and enabled to add a friendly, easy-to-use translation management interface to your web site and help you reach new linguistic markets.
